January Monthly goals

January

The goals for the year broken down for this month:

Blog at least 3 times a week- so I need a minimum of 14 blog posts including January 31st

PROPERLY train for and run a half, full and ultra marathon- half marathon training is up first, the minimum number of miles I need have run this month to keep up good training is- 60 miles

Revamp my diet and STICK TO IT!!!! –

Breakfast-juice and muffin or toast and coffee (I dropped my muffin this morning, sad face, so leftover slice of pizza and juice it is!)

Midmorning snack– Slimfast or smoothie

Lunch– Soup or salad

Dinner– Anything I want as long as it is make at home

After dinner– tea or hot chocolate , popcorn is ok too

Get A’s in all my classes this year- Keep a running tally of my % in my class(es)

Drop two clothing sizes, go from a 10 to a 6 –Stick with the aforementioned meal plan and marathon training and I should be golden

Stop overspending!!!! – I am not keeping any forms of payment on me at work so that I cannot pop next door to the little market whenever the desire strikes and I only get to eat out once this month so I better choose well.

Take a few minutes every day to sit in quiet reflection, meditate, and do something spiritual –I have a 5 line a day little diary and a 366 day devotional I am starting to use. (the first of the year was about setting your intention for the year and sending it out into the world, my intention this year is FOLLOW THROUGH!!! I am terrible about this)

Continue to work on and grow my relationship with Brandon – we need to get out and do something every week, we currently have Thursday evening through Sunday morning together and I don’t want us to just sit on the couch the whole weekend so my goal is at least one outing a weekend (they just need to be free outings lol)

Read 1 non-school book a month- I already met that goal this month ( I read online yesterday because work was dead) so let’s see if I can squeeze in a second one before school starts.

Huckleberry half**Race Review

This last Saturday my boyfriend and I ran our first race together. We didn’t have high hopes going in since neither of us had trained enough and there were going to be some hills.

We are not fans of getting up early.

What can I say about this race except that it was small which was nice and off the main road so we didn’t worry too much about cars. Their fuel stations were just ok in my opinion but I am used to bigger races with bigger sponsors so in the future I would just need to plan better.

The race was on sort of back mountain roads so trail running shoes would have been better because the roads were all chewed up from snow. I got blisters on my blisters.

The course was beautiful and shaded which made all the difference.

Our pace was ok, not great but not horrible for a hilly run for me.

As you can see I started off strong and really faded toward the end hahaha

Oh the hills!!!!!!! The entire race was a series of ups and downs. There was no flat, this race just wiped me out.

Fun wood carved medals, though Brandon is disappointed we didn’t get t-shirts, he likes those more than the medals.

Overall it was fun and I am glad we did it but I wanted to cry the last 3 miles because I was so tired and my body hurt so bad.

We know to train better for the next one!

Oh and if you are a slow runner and don’t like being at the back of the pack don’t run this race, We crossed the finish line with only 4 people behind us….yes only 4. This was a small race of fast runners hahaha.

My 30 days of no fast food

As you know I did 30 days of no fast food and it went great!……until day 30 hahahaha. I did really good the whole time, I felt great, I was working out more, making healthier choices. Then I went down to Southern California for my friends graduation and visited people. I did good and stayed away from fast food until 1:15am on day 30. We had gone to the awards banquet for my friends program and drank too much lol. Then we decided to go to a bar after the banquet ended any by 12:30am we were in desperate need for food and the nearest open thing was In ‘N’ Out.

I also made healthy food choices on this trip, even when eating in restaurants, for the first half of the trip, then the drinking started and the food starting getting worse and worse. When I got back I was past my 30 days so I had the fast food I had been craving during my 30 day abstinent stint. So I feel like a cow again, add in that I have been sick and eating gallons of soup sodium filled canned soup, I am bloated to high heaven.

I am meeting a friend for happy hour tomorrow to catch up, no I am not drinking, just a diet coke and a happy hour half priced burger for me haha. After that I am hoping back on the bandwagon and I am taking it a step further. I am not going out to eat unless someone has invited me for a social situation, in which case I am only allowed to order a salad, and/or a broth based soup (no chowders or creams!) Otherwise only homemade items are on the menu for me until I leave for the cruise mid-September. And no more soda! *Unless I am sick and its ginger ale.  (but knock on wood I wont be sick with all the healthy eating I am going to do!)

Special occasions are the exception, for example I am running a half marathon August 5th then heading to work and you can bet I am picking up a pizza on the way to work after that race hahahaha. My 1 year anniversary with the BF, I plan on us going out to dinner. Big things like that are the exceptions. (Mostly I am trying to turn this into a long term habit because I jump to the conclusion of eating out way to often).

I am going to try and do pics of my food again/still, but I am blonde and sometimes forget, also sometimes I am super hungry and just dive into my food and after I have finished go “oh yea I was supposed to take a pic of that…….would an empty plate work?” So bare with me. And as always keep me honest! If you see something that looks like a non-homemade meal and I didn’t explain it……CALL ME OUT!

Anybody want to join me on this or do their own challenge?

Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon Seattle part 2

Saturday morning we got up super early, about 4:40 and were out the door by about 5:15. Thankfully since the solstice is so close the sun was starting to rise so we had a little light. We hopped on the bus and head into downtown. Every few stops another runner got on the bus lol. We got there just after six and walked about 2 blocks to the space needle where the start line was. We did all the normal stuff, drank some water, bag drop all that. I was able to get down most of my protien shake and a few bites of a blueberry muffin then nerves got the best of me and I wasn’t hungry.

I made my way to my Corral, which was waaaaaaay back from the start lol

image

image

The start was delayed 15 min so the first wave went at 7:15……..I crossed the start line at about 8:05 lol.

Yea it was a big race lol. I waited so long that my nerves dissipated and hunger struck. Thankfully my mom had most of our stuff with her so I had the snacks I had bought at the Expo the day before.

image

This was my first time eating one of the waffles and it was DAMN good. I am so stoked I bought this.

So I crossed the start line and was doing awesome! My PR is 2:57 and I was on track for a 2:45 finish. I hit mile 6 still on pace feeling pretty good

image

Mile 8 was the last mile I hit on that target time

image

Then I started hurting and miles went from about 12:30 to 15:00-16:00.

Mile 9 was the Blue Mile, honoring our fallen service men and women. It was very moving and I refused to walk during the about quarter mile that people were holding the flag up.

After that I walked most of mile 10 but ran most of mile 13 which thank goodness was mostly downhill. And of course I picked up speed the last .2 miles.

image

My medal!!!! I earned this one lol. Every step from mile 9 on was painful.

Mom and I relaxed at Starbucks for a bit and I sponged off in the bathroom and changed clothes lol. My step dad met us and we got lunch then they dropped me off at Amtrack and I was able to get on a train about 3.5hours earlier than I had planned which was super awesome!
I got home about 7:30pm instead of midnight.

So that was my weekend! Sunday I happily did nothing but sit on my butt.

I’ll review the race tomorrow.

Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon 2016

Up early Friday morning to catch a cab to the nearby town center. There I took the transit system

image

To Portland Union Station

image

Which is actually pretty nice. At least the building is lol the surrounding area not as much.

image

The breakfast of champions.

The lunch of a desperate person lol

image

A microwaved hot dog.

My mom met me at the Amtrack station in Seattle. Just next door is the Seahawk stadium

image

Where the health and fitness expo is.

image

image

I got a bag full of samples and swag from the Expo.

image

After the Expo mom and I got a light lunch then took a taxi to our Air B&B accommodations.
We had some fun mishaps trying to take a bus to find some food

image

After 2 buses and probably a mile and a half of walking we settled on the next restaurant we walked in front of…..I know GASP, eating someplace unknown the night before a big race, thankfully it all workout ok.

image

I went with the simplest thing possible.

After dinner we headed back, got everything ready for my race the next morning and passed out.

Monday Motivation **June 13, 2016

image

This picture really hits home for me right now. I’ve been taking more days off than normal lately. I’m feeling a bit burned out. I think after my half marathon this weekend I might take a full week off then really buckle back down.
After that it’s the triathlon in September and the marathon in October then I’m taking at least 2-3 weeks off.

So that being said, here’s the plan for the week

Monday- ran 2.15 miles

Tuesday- OFF

Wednesday- Swim 800m

Thursday- spin class

Friday- walk 1 mile

Saturday – Rock and Roll half marathon!!!!

Sunday- OFF

Half Marathon!!

Ran a half marathon today

image

Most important pre-race step.
The day started off with rain

image

But thankfully it stopped later

image

Half way point!!!

After I crossed the finish line my ‘medal’ was a tiara.

image

After the race I hobbled home and had a little ice bath

image

Then met my aunt and uncle for a delicious lunch!

image

Happily I had leftovers for a late night snack.

I review the race later.

How was your Saturday?

Tough Tuesday

Howdy!

Yesterday was back to work after the weekend.

I’m having a hard time right now. I’ve been very up and down lately with my mood. I feel like i am constantly fighting off depression, thank goodness for working out.

Today’s running quote.

I made coffee today! Yay me. Gotta cut costs when i can.

I got post run kisses

I hate being depressed and i am trying to figure out what is causing it so i can fix it.  I’ll keep you posted.

5k Race Review

Hi!!!!!

So on Saturday i ran the Shoc 5K to support ovarian cancer research.

image

We started and ended at the Gladstone Harley dealer! Thank you Harley Davidson!

image

The route was really nice, went through some foresty, shaded areas.

There were 2 water stations on the 5k which was really nice but i wish they had spread them farther apart, i was dying for 2 miles then got two water stations in the last mile.

Other than that i liked it.

image

We got breakfast afterwards! Pancakes, eggs and sausage. There were also bagels and bananas and coffee and water.

image

Crossing the finish line!!! I ran it in 44:46, which was a 14:28/mile average. That is by no means fast but i am happy with it.
I really liked that not long after i crossed the finish line i got text telling me my time. That was awesome!
Also got an email with a finishers certificate. Personally i reallt liked that.

I’ll be rocking my race shirt at work on Monday 😄

Overall i enjoyed the race, i could tell it was a little bit of a lower budget/smaller operation but i still really enjoyed it. I think I’ll be back next year!!!

Oooh and i got one of the sponsors to evaluate my running gait and tell me i had good shoes for my running! Yay!!!
