Now comes a big step in this crazy journey…..The lease is up on my apartment and i have given notice at work. I am moving back home to live with my mom so i can save the money i would have spent on rent and utilities and instead buy better quality gear that could be potentially life saving…..especially in the snow equipment area. The only possible hitch in this plan is finding a halfway decent paying job back home lol….wish me luck!!!!
Now due to the joys and bureaucracy of apartment complex living, they screwed up my move out date……in all honesty i also made a very naive move, i went into the office and verbally confirmed my lease end and move out date because they had given me conflicting paperwork…….my thick blonde skull (who is living in her first apartment ever) figured that confirmation was all that i needed, NOPE!
So i am here about 3 weeks longer than anticipated, but that is ok, live and learn baby.
I have been slowly packing
My mom fit all of this in her car last time she was in town and since then i have been doing a box a night hahaha
Good thing i don’t eat in the dining room LOL
As of now i have about 4 more boxes packed and mom is coming into town tonight. We will then be packing like fiends due to the fact that i had planned on moving out August 2nd so the Uhaul is already reserved and will be being loaded on Sunday. For 2.5 weeks i will have clothes and a blow up mattress and nothing else hahaha. Let the first part of the adventure begin!!!!
Grabbed a few more pieces of gear in the last few weeks.
For our water filtration system my mom and i have decided to to go with the SteriPen.
We got them for half off at Costco!!! We got one for each of us and i may keep mom’s as a backup after she heads home. Originally i was going to get a bigger filtration system that used gravity to filter it into your water bottle, then logic hit me on the head with the size of the filtration system i was looking at and the hassle of it. Thank you mom for going to Costco and getting these!!
I saw other people that are blogging this year have them and don’t seem to have any complaints or problems so i think i will be good with these.
We also picked up our camp towels. I already had one of those small square yellow camp towels that feel like a sham wow that i used in Costa Rica 4 years ago and that was adequate but didn’t pack up very small and did the job just ok. Here is the towel i will be taking on the trail:
I will let you know how it works.
We chose our cooking pot:
it fits on the stove i bought and the stove fits down inside of it when i pack it up. It is light weight and seems like it should work. Mom and i both got one so we don’t have to mix food or wait for one to finish if we want something different. Now technically this could also be our coffee cup, but we figured what if we want a hot drink and food….so we got little compact-able coffee mugs
the grey part is rubber-y and folds up into the green part. It seemed like it would be perfect to pour my coffee into and be able to hike then just fold it up and stick in a side pocket until i have time to wash it.
Ill keep you posted:) Ahhhhh 8 month and 10 days until we head to the trail!!!!!
Well it is a bit premature but I already bought my first treat for my resupply boxes!!!
I think I will end up doing half resupply boxes, half buying food in towns, maybe every other one or so, but ill cover that more in depth later.
So obviously when hiking 8-9 hours a day you need carbs and protein, I was introduced to this AWESOME oatmeal, by a company called Straw Propeller. They only sweeten with cane sugar and it’s all organic and it tastes AMAZING!!!!! Seriously the yummiest, healthiest oatmeal I have ever eaten. Of course with awesomeness comes costliness, but I think it is worth it for a good treat on the trail.
I am also going to have to sacrifice more than a few extra bucks for this yumminess, they are bulky and not worried about weight, which is also why I will only allow myself probably 2 at most 3 per resupply box.
But that is all worth it!!! I salivate over this oatmeal when I am not burning 6000-8000 calories a day so I know I am going to devour it on the trail!!!!!
I am sure I will end up posting a video of me inhaling it one day on the trail 🙂
The pictures are the 3 flavors i have chose to order. (Though my mom ordered a few cases of different flavors so i may tray and snag one or two of her other flavors for a bit of extra variety 🙂 )
Have you ever tried Straw Propeller oatmeal? If so what is your favorite flavor?
