Weekly Workouts

Sunday -OFF

Monday – OFF

Tuesday – 3 miles

Wednesday -OFF

The longer my mileage gets the less I want to press play on any kind of strength training. I need to start finding shorter strength workouts as my mileage increases. I can go back to 30 minutes strength workouts after the marathon.

Thursday – 3 miles

Friday – 2 miles – these were hot miles right in the middle of the day while I got the kids tonight from the stroller.

Saturday -10 miles

Book review – Choosing to Run A Memoir

This book was the perfect length. I almost always wanted to keep reading it and wouldn’t have put it down except I’m a tired mom at the end of the night hahahaha.

It was an easy read and still inspiring. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would easily recommend it to runners especially but anyone really.

Honestly, I didn’t even know who Des Linden was (runners confession, I don’t really follow the major players lol)

Book review: Iron War

The book that never ends

Some books I want to be longer or have more books in the series, some have found that sweet perfect length, but some are WAAAAY too long. This book is WAAAAY too long.

I liked some of the extra background stuff but overall oh man take a hundred pages out.

The beginning 2 chapters that tell you the background of the competitors are good, the middle 2 chapters on the race are good. The last 2 chapters about what the competitors did after could be shortened a bit but were pretty good. Take everything else out as far as I am concerned.

I would say either read this book assuming you will skip through some things or just Google the race and read some excerpts from the book.

Weekly Workouts

Monday – OFF

Tuesday – 10k race

Small town race means it wasn’t exactly 10k length hahahahaha

Wednesday – OFF

Thursday – OFF

Friday – 3 miles

Saturday – 7 miles

Total miles- 15.93 miles

With the holiday and the jam packed week we had I was exhausted. We did lots of activities this week so I took it easy on the workouts.

I just hit REI and got lots of yummy new energy gels for the next 2ish months of training!!!!

July 2023 garden update

It has been a very weird late spring/early summer for us here in the Pacific Northwest. Spring stayed cold and wet later than the last few years then once summer hit, boom! We have been in the mid 80s- high 90s since then.

My watermelon is staying alive but barely growing
I finally put chicken netting around this area and it’s not growing. Broccoli, carrots, bell peppers and a lone surviving pumpkin plant.
My pumpkins are the only plants that are thriving. But the chickens have started digging so I might be harvesting them a bit early. We will see.
We have some volunteer cherry tomato plants amid the weeds
Raspberries
My 2 lone survivor garlic
Salsa garden
Beefsteak tomatoes
Version of a Roma tomato
My basil is doing amazing
Jalapenos, with cilantro behind it and cucumbers to the side of it.

We have four chickens and on average we get 2 to 3 eggs a day. One of them was injured last year so I don’t think she lays anymore.

We have a fig tree out front that’s doing well and a small little container of strawberries that we’ve eaten. Maybe two of us because my son picked some early and birds have gotten the others.

Race review – Stayton 4th of July 10k

This was promoted as a fun run which always tells me it’s not going to be perfect lol.

This was a cute small town run. About 2 miles of it was done on a trail which was really nice. They had 4 aid stations but you passed one twice for a total of 5 and with the sun and heat it was needed! It was a nice race, small and slightly miscalculated on the distance hahahah. My watch put it at 5.93 miles

But this was a great run for me to make sure I was on track in my marathon training and it was $10!!!! Who can beat that?

All in all except for it being a hot 4th of July it was fun and I would love to do it again next year.
