The Long Beach Half Marathon

Whew! It has been a long 2 weeks! Lots of traveling, lots of fun and lots of exhaustion. I’ll update you over the next few days.

First, if I didn’t tell you I decided to drop down to the half marathon because the full was just too hard on my body this soon after birth. (My youngest isn’t even 18 months) my hips and tendons would hurt so bad after my long runs it just wasn’t worth it.

I arranged for an Uber ahead of time to make sure I had one and relieve that stress…..boy was that expensive.

I got there an hour before my start time, I got to watch the bike race and marathon take off.

I forgot how many people are in huge races like this. They said over 18.000 between the marathon and half. It’s just too many people. This taught me I prefer the small races. Every port-a-potty I used was out of toilet paper! There were maybe 7 or 8 waves to accommodate all the runners leaving every 5 minutes so my 730 start turned to a 755 start.

And we were off!!!! I always tell myself over and over at the beginning of a race ‘run your own race’ to try and prevent myself from going out too hot.

The water stations were using hoses to fill from a big truck which didn’t really work because different tables would run out of water and be calling for the hose and it was not the most organized of water stations.

I enjoyed the first half of the race a lot. But then because we started at 7:30. it. got. hot. I’m a slow runner and I didn’t finish until just after 11:00 since I didn’t start until almost 8:00 and it was so hot. I was sweltering and people were dropping like flies.

The half marathon boasts that 90% of it is by the Pacific Ocean. Which makes for nice scenery but no shade cover.
Overall, I’m happy I did it. I’ll never regret running a race. But I never need to do this one again. Too many people for me. Way too hot. Not enough shade cover.
Some of my family was able to watch me cross the finish line which was wonderful.

All in all the Long Beach marathon is a great race, but it’s not for me.

Race review – Stayton 4th of July 10k

This was promoted as a fun run which always tells me it’s not going to be perfect lol.

This was a cute small town run. About 2 miles of it was done on a trail which was really nice. They had 4 aid stations but you passed one twice for a total of 5 and with the sun and heat it was needed! It was a nice race, small and slightly miscalculated on the distance hahahah. My watch put it at 5.93 miles

But this was a great run for me to make sure I was on track in my marathon training and it was $10!!!! Who can beat that?

All in all except for it being a hot 4th of July it was fun and I would love to do it again next year.

Monday Motivation**March 6th, 2017

Can you suffer from the pain of both? I ate way too much junk this weekend and was bloated for at least half the weekend and tonight I ran 5 miles then walked for another 30.

Tomorrow I need to do some serious stretching and foam rolling (aka tourture). My right hip (IT band) is SUPER tight so my hip is hurting and it radiates down my thigh to my knee. So foam rolling is a big to do for me tomorrow……or today since its after midnight.

The boyfriend and I were seriously lazy this weekend, we watched at least 8 movies and some Game of Thrones episodes. But it was seriously needed for me since I was traveling the last 2 weekends.

Some random stuff from this week:

My walk to class from the back parking lot

Gotta love Oregon lol

The boyfriend suggested running a marathon together in October, he was thinking Portland marathon until I looked it up and the cost is $130!! Too rich for our current blood so I’m looking at other options. But i did look up some training plans on Google

Then i scrapped them and made my own hahaha.

Tonight was the premier of a new TV show

I used the 2 hour premier to distract me while I ran.

Yep, i run like a turtle.

Thank goodness for TVs on your treadmill.

When I got home I had some leftover sushi from yesterday’s dinner

It was good.

And now it’s pass out time.

Goodnight!!!!

Do you like sushi?

Volunteering and budget shopping

Happy 4th of July weekend!!!

Last night my roommate and I went to the movies and I didn’t get to bed until about 12:30am and was up at 5:20am to go volunteer at the cook park marathon.

Also I was bad and had McDonald’s this week

It was a small race so that was nice. And it was several loops so there was only 1 aid station that qthe runners hit several times

I was not excited about being awake early

This afternoon I did some correspondence

Water is a big theme for me lately, trying to hydrate more and more

A short midday nap

And a shopping trip on a budget

Fish and chips, sandwiches, chicken and rice and oatmeal not too shabby for $28.

Seattle Rock and Roll race recap

This is my 2nd rock and roll event and I wasn’t disappointed. The atmosphere was upbeat and fun.

The medal is awesome.

The Expo was very well put together and had a lot of great companies show up and lots of great samples to try.

I wish they got us across the start line at little quicker but otherwise all pre-race things were well organized.

Every mile-ish there is a band to pump you up and cheerleaders along the way.

Every about 1.8 miles there were water and/or Gatorade stations.

There were energy chews around mile 8 and a Glucose drink around mile 9.5. I do wish these were more spread out,  like maybe mile 6 and miles 9.5.

Rock and Roll had enough volunteers to make everything run very smoothly.

Both of my rock and roll experiences have been positive and I am looking forward to my next one!!

Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon Seattle part 2

Saturday morning we got up super early, about 4:40 and were out the door by about 5:15. Thankfully since the solstice is so close the sun was starting to rise so we had a little light. We hopped on the bus and head into downtown. Every few stops another runner got on the bus lol. We got there just after six and walked about 2 blocks to the space needle where the start line was. We did all the normal stuff, drank some water, bag drop all that. I was able to get down most of my protien shake and a few bites of a blueberry muffin then nerves got the best of me and I wasn’t hungry.

I made my way to my Corral, which was waaaaaaay back from the start lol

image

image

The start was delayed 15 min so the first wave went at 7:15……..I crossed the start line at about 8:05 lol.

Yea it was a big race lol. I waited so long that my nerves dissipated and hunger struck. Thankfully my mom had most of our stuff with her so I had the snacks I had bought at the Expo the day before.

image

This was my first time eating one of the waffles and it was DAMN good. I am so stoked I bought this.

So I crossed the start line and was doing awesome! My PR is 2:57 and I was on track for a 2:45 finish. I hit mile 6 still on pace feeling pretty good

image

Mile 8 was the last mile I hit on that target time

image

Then I started hurting and miles went from about 12:30 to 15:00-16:00.

Mile 9 was the Blue Mile, honoring our fallen service men and women. It was very moving and I refused to walk during the about quarter mile that people were holding the flag up.

After that I walked most of mile 10 but ran most of mile 13 which thank goodness was mostly downhill. And of course I picked up speed the last .2 miles.

image

My medal!!!! I earned this one lol. Every step from mile 9 on was painful.

Mom and I relaxed at Starbucks for a bit and I sponged off in the bathroom and changed clothes lol. My step dad met us and we got lunch then they dropped me off at Amtrack and I was able to get on a train about 3.5hours earlier than I had planned which was super awesome!
I got home about 7:30pm instead of midnight.

So that was my weekend! Sunday I happily did nothing but sit on my butt.

I’ll review the race tomorrow.

Half Marathon!!

Ran a half marathon today

image

Most important pre-race step.
The day started off with rain

image

But thankfully it stopped later

image

Half way point!!!

After I crossed the finish line my ‘medal’ was a tiara.

image

After the race I hobbled home and had a little ice bath

image

Then met my aunt and uncle for a delicious lunch!

image

Happily I had leftovers for a late night snack.

I review the race later.

How was your Saturday?

The first rule of fight club….

Happy Saturday!!!

Weekend 4 done at the tulip farm for me!! I don’t work tomorrow because i have a race.

But lets back up, i got my butt to the gym yesterday morning and did a little spin and swim

image

image

image

image

Then i hit Starbucks thanks to my bestie Nicole and the birthday giftcard she sent me

image

Yep thats a little bit of my Stitchfix dress you see.

I also got some blueberries to add to my oatmeal

image

The tulip festival was good day, busy but not crazy.

I came home and read a chapter of my book club book the watched a Netflix documentary on the barkely marathon. The first rule of the barkley marathon is you don’t talk about the barkley marathon…..oops i broke rule #1. This race is INSANE!!! In the i think 30 something years it has been run only 15 people have ever finished it………I WANT TO DO IT!!!!!! But not for a long time lol i have to learn how to navigate a trail map and all that cause there are NO ROUTE MARKERS and its in the Tennessee wilderness.

Card dinner

image

And now its sleep time for my race tomorrow. Goodnight.

Google the Barkley marathon and let me know if you want to try it with me

Vortex 10k race recap.

The vortex 10k was fun but brutal.
It was a really small race which was cool.

image

This was the entire half marathon group.

So i loved the small group but there was no bag drop or anything like that which i did not like. Though by not having a bag drop i had to keep my phone with me which allowed for a few photos.

Being a trail run there was a lot of mud to get through

image

I did a fair amount of slipping  and sliding and walking.

By mile 2 i knew this would not be a PR kind of race so i just had fun with it. I love trail run because i always feel a little more adventurous hahahahaha. Plus its super beautiful.

Since it was such a small group i would go a few min at a time not seeing another person

image

Mile 4. There was some elevation changes in the race so i was dying a bit lol. My calves are still sore.

image

I had some awesome scenery

image

The course ended up only being 5.5 miles because construction was going on to rebuild what some storms has washed out. But it was still tough.

Post race food was a beef stew out of #10 cans lol. Very salty. I ate some of the veggies and broth to tide me over.

All in all i enjoyed the race and think i would enjoy running it again next year.

image

image

Another bib to add to the wall!!!!

image

Did you have any races this weekend?

Another satisfying Saturday

Well my last alarm didn’t get off this morning so i work up about 45 min later than i wanted but thankfully i still have plenty of time. I ran a trail 10k this morning, which was actually 5.5 miles because some of the trail washed out and was being repaired. I will review the race in another post.

image

Then i had the house to myself which was so nice.
I watched the last hunger games which i had yet to see

image

Ate some leftover sweet and sour rice and veggies

image

I got cuddles from my fav dog

image

image

And i made my second blue apron meal this week. Delicious quiche.

image

image

image

image

First time i have ever shelled peas lol.
I made a few changes to the recipe, i put the shallots in the quiche and some of the pea shoots in as well instead of making the accompanying salad.

image

image

I actually had to put them back in for an extra 15ish minutes to cook longer.

And now goodnight.
