Dinner with the family!

When my family gets together food is what we congregate around.

Aun, mom, stepdad

Uncle, aunt, grandma

Deciding what to eat was a difficult decision

Artichoke and fried onion appetizer

We like beer flights and tasters as well

Copperhead Salmon with mango quinoa salad and heirloom tomatoes……..OH MY GOSH this was sooooo good and tasted so fresh

The table shared two desserts. A brownie and a blackberry cobbler

We couldn’t wait to taste them so the pics were taken after the desserts had made the rounds hahahahaaha

Coffee after dinner!!!!!

Gotta love when mom comes to town and gives me shoes that didn’t fit her!!!

Sadly these are a little big but I will get pads to put in them because they are too cute to not keep

Also did some laundry today and prepped one meal for next week.

Are you good at ordering at restaurants?

Fun fact , I am GREAT at ordering, I am almost never disappointed with my meals.

Soooo sleepy!!!

Coffee!!!!! Yesterday wiped me out, also I took benadryl for my allergies this morning which probably isn’t helping. I am doing everything I can to stay awake at my desk right now.

Thankfully I feel pretty good after the hike yesterday

Before bed I rubbed some salve on my feet that I got on Amazon and they are golden today, no roughness or soreness

How is your Monday morning going?

Weekend Wrapup

Whew!!!! Just got home from a 12 hour day. Last night the crazy visiting dogs got picked up at 11:30pm so my roommate and I slept in this morning. I got up before she did and watched some TV. I knew I would either be running 10 miles today or hiking.

After my roommate woke up we chose hiking. We were on the road by 11, this was pretty last minute so we got a very late start.

4 hours later after pooping dogs, stressed out dogs, barking dogs and slow a** drivers, we arrived at the hiking spot.

Only to realize it was the wrong hiking spot. We were in the right area just wrong spot so we drove around for another 10 min until we found it.

And off we went for a walk in the woods!

It was a nice but challenging hike. 1200ish foot elevation gain, mostly in the first 2 miles.

Artemis likes to run ahead then run back, then run ahead, then run back so she probably did like 12 miles to our 6. I know I kept her well hydrated though cause she peed a lot hahahahaha.

Beautiful scenery.

Lots of streams and small river crossings

The last mile had good coastal views.

I forced her to pose with me, she wasn’t too happy hahahahaha.

Afterwards back into the car for another 4 hours adventure!!!!

There was traffic of course and we stopped at A&W to get root beer freezes and food. The food is a life choice I am regretting. Also we were seriously in the drive through line for a minimum of 20 min!!!! They were so slow and rude!!!! Bit it was DAMN good food After the hike. I just know my stomach isn’t going to be happy.

Artemis knocked out until we got to the food then we got back on the road and barked until I rolled the window up while we sat in traffic. Apparently the traffic noises were making it hard for her to sleep because then she credit down and passed back out until we got home. Now she’s passed out in bed.

The last surprise of the night was a cold shower,  I am guessing our pilot light went out or something. Quick rinse off and I was out. And now it’s time for me to pass out. Goodnight.

Tuesday thoughts and Blue Apron!

2 days until Thanksgiving!!!

image

Sunday morning i made cinnamon rolls and when i say made i mean i opened the package and put them in the oven Hahahahaha. Artemis and i tried for another run, i made sure she pooped right before we left and this time we got about 7 minutes into the walk until she pooped again. My mom made a good point that she might be nervous in the new area causing her to go more. We will keep trying.

Sunday night i hoped on the treadmill and did my first run post surgery…..2 whole miles!!! And holy crap was it hard. A month off running is a looooong time to the body.

image

Very hard work.

image

But its a step in the right direction!!!!

Blue Apron meal #2 this week.

image

image

image

I still love the preportioned awesomeness.

image

I may have been drinking  some hot chocolate while cooking.

image

image

Once again i tweaked it a little. I cooked some of the onions which was not part of the recipe.

image

Sadly i missed my training appt tonight. I took the dogs out, ate half a bagel, locked the door handle and walked out the door…….literally 3 steps later i realized my keys were still on the hook after i had slammed the locked door shut. I sat in the 38degree weather in workout for about 40 minutes then my toes were burning which is not good, neither of my roommates had answered so i did a quick walk the .75 miles to a nearby subway where i bought dinner (i did have my purse thankfully). My roommate came and picked me up.

image

I continued the cardio kick and hopped on the recumbent bike in the bonus room for 35 minutes then watched some amazing race. An oddly slow yet busy night.

Being locked out in the freezing rain oddly made me miss the trail. I know i would have spent many days like that on the trail.

How was your Sunday and Monday?

Have you ever locked yourself out? How did you get back inside?

More checks off the list

Hi everyone,

The trail is fast approaching!  With that I am gathering up the last few things I need.

image

Got my watch, which tells the date and time as well as being water resistant to 100m. I already tested it in the shower to make sure it can survive in the rain.

image

Got some cheap and lightweight camp shoes……I know, my socks and tights are awesome too hahaha!

image

Mom’ago gaiters

image

My gaiters, I was drawn to the honeycomb design, hopefully that is a good sign…..

Gaiters are things that go over the top of your shoes to help prevent rocks from getting in.
We got ours from Dirty Girl Gaiters.

image

image

Colapsable, lightweight trowel……I think you can figure out what that’s for…..here’s a hint, there are no  toilets in the wilderness.

image

Yummy snack

image

These give me electrolytes and energy.

image

Cute postcards to send to friends and family!

image

Cold weather gloves….on clearance at REI 🙂

image

This was my mom’s suggestion, you dip it in cold water and put it on your neck to stay cool.

image

Cheap clearance goggles!  These are for those crazy windy days…..and yes they happen and it gets that crazy windy.

image

Necklaces to wear on the full moon and new moon…..gotta stay in touch with nature. Moonstone and labradorite (I think I spelled that right)

Time to start upping our water intake.

Hi everyone!!!!!

Oh my goodness, mom and I start the trail in 3 weeks!!!!!

With that being said it is time to start upping our water intake.

On dry spots on the trail when you get to a water source you’ camel up’. This means that you clean your water then drink as much as possible then clean more to take with you.

Doing this means you stay hydrated longer, you don’t have to dip into your water stash until later in your day.

With that little background now stated we can talk about why mom and I need to start drinking more water before we even start the trail.

Most people are never fully hydrated, we get some water fro, the coffee we drink and soda etc. But still most of us don’t get the full amount of water our bodies need to function at their optimal level.

Something that will help us in the desert is to be fully hydrated when we start.

Today is March 16. This week’s goal will be to drink 1 liter of water every day…..that is not including any coffee or other beverages, just pure water.

image

My camelbak is one liter. That is 32oz or 4 full glasses of water.

For the 2 weeks before the trail the goal will be double that,  so 2 litters of water a day. That will get us to full hydration. …….at least according to science lol.

Care to do it with us? I promise all it can do is help you 🙂

Talk to you soon!
