Day Hike, Saturday July 11, 2015

So it is the 10th, the night before the hike and packing is bringing back a flood of memories from the PCT. As crazy hard and emotional as it was…..I miss it!!!

It is so weird to pack for a day hike near a city, the last time i packed for a hike it was with the knowledge that i would have to survive for days on just what was in my pack. Now, just as then, i have to try not to overpack hahahahaha.

Ill add more tomorrow!

I got up at about 4:45 to meet my friend.

The hike was pretty, very green and the mist made it a little magical. We were the only ones one the trail.

The traio went up, up, up, up then down, down, down, down. And clearly the trail hadnt been used much because at least 1/3rd of it was super overgrown. We did some serious bushwacking!

Overall it was tiring but i enjoyed it. Now for a shower than dinner and a movie with the roommates!!!!

For this book review i was looking at my old blog and found a book that i loved and still have. I have started giving books away or selling them back when i am done to clear space for new ones, but really great ones i keep. This is the book that inspiried me to first start growing my own food and i highly suggest you read it. They throw in fun stories about their lives and finding food.

Hello Friends!

Today’s Post will be short and sweet.

Where I am, we are smack dab in the middle of planting season and I am loving it! I have never been a big gardener before; we tried a few small things last year but nothing to the extent to which I am trying this year.
Then, last year I read this great book called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. This is a wonderful book about a family that makes a vow to themselves to only eat what they can grow themselves or get within a 100 mile radius (within reason) of them.
This book inspired me to try to grow a lot more of my own food. I’ll talk about my own gardening next time but I wanted to tell you about this book today. Check out the book’s website and think about it.

Yesterday i got my firat organicstoyou box since being home.

Good morning!!!!!……well good afternoon now.

So i laid down to go to sleep around 9:30 last night, finally drifted off around 10:30, tossed and turned, woke up severel times and had a nightmare lol. I had set my alarm for 5:15 this morning to be out the door by about 5:30-5:40 to do my first training run.
I woke up at 4:45 and reset my alarm for 5:30. At 5:30 i turned my alarm off for 20 minutes and dozed. I finally crawled out of bed around 5:50. Made myself a bod-e shake.

I like them cause they actually taste good. I drank about 1/4 of it and headed out the door to do 3 miles……..my house is surrounded by hills!!!!!

Overall it was a good run, i can’t wait until 3 miles is an easy run again!

When i got home i threw a little Vega protien and recovery into the rest of my shake and that was breakfast, then it was shower and off to work.

Vancouver Rock and Roll Half Marathon

Hi!!!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! I am currently recovering from my weekend, i drank more this weekend than i think i have in the entire last year combined, and now i remember why i gave up the majority of my drinking.

Feeling this bad and this bloated and fat actually makes me so excited to start training for my next half marathon!
I just signed up for the Vancouver, BC rock and roll half marathon.

Last year my friend Brandy and i trained for and ran the Portland rock and roll half marathon

And i loved it!!!! They give out awesome medals

And provide great in race and post refreshments, i was very impressed.
So on the 6th i start my training.

My training method is from Tom Holland’s book and i love it, its very gradual and helps decrease injury.

Anybody want to train with me? I start monday and the race is October 25th.

Water, Water everywhere, and i am drinking every drop!

Keeping yourself hydrated is very important, especially if you are trying to be healthy and/or lose weight.

Now FYI i am not a doctor and too much water does risk hyponatremia, which is water intoxication, it comes from drinking too much water in two short a period of time causing there to not be enough salt in your blood. But this does take liters and liters in the span of like an hour. WebMD says that your kidney’s can expel about half a liter of water an hour which is about 15oz. Basically i wouldn’t try for much more than about a gallon a day, again i am not a doctor and this is just what i have read online.

I think a gallon is a good amount of water to shoot for each day. The pluses of drinking enough water are amazing skin, improved digestion, better liver function, weight loss, more energy…..the list goes on and on.

Hi!!! I hope you all are enjoying your Saturday. It is hotter than Hades where i am.

So Mom’s wedding is tomorrow then we load the uhaul’s and head out!

I’ve been pretty busy so a long book wasn’t in the cards, when i was at Barnes and Noble a week and a half ago i saw a whole bunch of 30 second books that looked really interesting. I chose anataomy because really there is no bad knowing how your body works and i am pleased to say that it was facinating!! And very easy to follow and comprehend. I look forward to reading more in this series, maybe i’ll finally figure out what the heck quantum physics is!!!!!
