My friend and I have a step challenge going

And she is currently kicking my butt. I need to get moving!!!

of course i say this after just eating 2 slices of cold pizza for breakfast. Hey it was more free food from a resident.

2 runs this week….though this is counting from Tuesday. if you count a week from last Monday than it would be 3 runs but Garmin is stupid in that way. But great in so many others so I cant really complain.

No run tonight as it is out 2 year anniversary and we are going out to dinner. No idea where yet though. I will tell you all about it tomorrow!!!

Race training

Howdy! After yesterday’s post my mom asked me what a tempo run is so I thought I would do a quick post explaining the different kind of training runs for anyone who isn’t a runner or has never trained for a race.

*Now take this with a grain of salt. I do not know everything and only know the way I have trained.

Types of runs:

Tempo runs- this is where you try to run the pace you want to run during the race. I will slowly build the amount of miles i do in my tempo runs but it never gets close to the race mileage. My goal will be to do half the amount of miles that are in the race at tempo before my training is done. So for me that will be 6 miles.

Hills- kind of self explanatory. You need to run some hills. No course will usually be completely flat so train a few hills.

Fartleks, sprints, intervals- while not exactly the same things I count them all in the same category. Intervals are where you walk for a certain amount of time then run for a certain amount of time alternating. Sprints are where you have a set time or distance that you run all out, your hardest, then walk a certain time or distance to recover and repeat. Fartleks are another version of sprints but each round is different, you say something like ok sprint to that mailbox then walk to the 3rd lightpole then sprint to that newspaper stand then walk to that red car and so on until you done.

The last one that I do is the long slow run- this is where you increase your miles slowly each week and you run at about 1-2 min slower than your desired race pace.

Do you have any other kinds of runs you do?

The Kind Diet another cookbook I LOVE! Yes it is also vegan and but there are some delicious recipes in here! There are a handful I make over and over and over that I just love!!!

Leftover chili with bread for lunch today. So delicious!

One of the residents where I work had their freezer break and thaw out so they needed to use up the meat that was in there ASAP, lucky for me they aren’t eating red meat right now so tonight Brandon and I will be BBqing a new York stead with grilled zucchini and mashed potatoes! And we will have lamb burgers tomorrow…..I’ve never had a lamb burger so we will see but I want gonna say no to free food!!!

It turned out soooooo good!!!!

I got the hw that is due tonight all done and worked ahead on tomorrow’s HW. I’m one day ahead now, I wish I was more ahead though. I will need to work on that for next quarter.

Stats for this week:

Cant wait to see what next week holds!!!

Not included in those stats:

My first tempo run tonight!!!!

It was only 1 mile but I didn’t walk at all and was under the pace I wanted so yay!!!

I am going to train properly for this half marathon……did I mention Brandon and I signed up for a half marathon the first weekend in October?

I slept in way too late today. I rolled out of bed at 11am. Apparently I really needed 11 hours of sleep. After finally getting up we drove to a little trail to get a 4 mile run in. I apparently misread the info about this because the little trail we did was only 1.5 miles hahaha!!! So then we moved to the streets to get in the last 2.5 miles. The downside of sleeping for 11 hours means it was HOT on our run. But we got it done.

Then it was HW time for me.

Getting down to it. Music helps me block out the outside world.

My study partner. She is beat after our hot run.

A frappachino and lemon loaf. Way more calories and sugar than I would normally go for but I needed the treat hahahahaha!!!

5 HOURS LATER, I am finally done and the assignment is submitted.

Now the wonderful BF is making me a breakfast burrito for dinner (I requested that) so i am going to go stuff my face and crawl into bed.

Hello!!! So happy it is my Friday!

I have HW to do tomorrow then I think Saturday we are going to go visit his grandparents on their farm. I LOVE where they live. I think they are on about 10 acres and have like 10 cows. I think they got 2 calves this year, I can’t wait to see the baby cows!!!! They also have a million blackberry bushes so i will be bringing homes like 20lbs of blackberries. But i’ll stop before I get carried away, you can see it all when I blog about it hahaha.

Today’s plan:

Try and get some more HW done at work to make tomorrow go a little easier.

1.5 mile run with sprints…….in the 98 degree heat (date night!!! lol)

Taco salad was the plan but instead I ate some cookie dough and homemade guacamole and was way too full. I wanted to puke a little during my run. But I got through it.

Now a movie at home to complete the date night.

And babe made some fried zucchini that was to die for!

July 25, 2018

Our first handful of tomatoes have arrived!!! Pictures to come.

I have also given away 4 zucchini this week, we still have 1 in the fridge, 3 on the counter and at least 2 more ready to pick. 3 cucumber on the counter. Time to make more pickles!

Our lettuce is also getting ready to flower and we didn’t make salad last night so i cut the tops and brought them to a coworker.

Tried to find motivation to do some HW at work today, I have a relatively easy but time consuming project due on Friday for my writing class.

I had planned to go home last night and do some HW and workout and basically just be productive, but I got hit with a wave of sadness.

10 years ago this last Monday they found a tumor on my dad’s spine and less than 2 months later he was dead. We are rapidly approaching the decade anniversary of his death and that is really hard. My family is also currently planning a memorial for my brother who died in January to have in our home town in September so emotions are running high all around.

Sometimes you just need a night cry and let it all out. I took that last night now its time to get back to it.

I know we are still smack dab in the middle of summer but since I am out watering every day and plodding away in the garden and watching my food grow; I can already see and feel fall coming in the mornings and evenings. Which I am super excited about because Autumn is my favorite month but for the first time I am thinking, “Summer, don’t go too fast…..I want more food hahahaha.”

Here in the pacific northwest by the time the summer solstice hits we have sun from like 4:15am to 10-10:15pm. Now just over a month past the solstice the sun is behind the last houses by 9pm and it is just starting to peak over the horizon when I get a quick morning water in at 5:40am to stave off the 98 degree weather. A quick hit of the hose in the AM means I don’t come home to wilted plants at 5pm. I do the major watering after i get home from work.

Today is a medium busy day for me, I am working until mid-afternoon then meeting my friend for a coffee and a chat

then heading home to get in a quick 1.5 mile run

then making some delicious stuffed zucchini.

We opened our first batch of homemade refrigerator pickles and they are DELICIOUS!!!! I wanted to eat the entire pint jar in one sitting……and no I have not been a major pickle lover my whole life.

Got tomorrows HW done today for the win! Staying ahead is game changing.
