September homeschool retrospective

Thursday September 7th

I woke up at 6:30am, the baby was just staying to stir in her crib. I got Ella up at 6:50 and made coffee.

Put Roberts and Ella’s entamology pen pal clubhouse letters in the mail. (We just started this from an Instagram account called Mornings together, we get a new little packet each week emailed to us, I print it out and the kids color it then we mail it to a family member. As they get older it has a few questions and some facts along with the coloring).

Robert woke up at about 7:15, I fed ella and snuggled with the kids for a bit. We had breakfast burritos just after 8:00. While we are I read the kids ‘How to Make Apple Pie and See the World’.

Then I unloaded the dishwasher while they played and colored. After that we worked on Robert’s good and beautiful math lesson number six. After that we went outside around 10:20am Robert fed chickens while I started laundry. We swung on our swing set and at popsicles. I watered the yard while they swung.

At 11 we walked to the corner market to get chips for lunch. The kids had tomato soup with grilled cheese and chips, I had a ham sandwich, soup and chips.
After lunch they played with daddy while he was on lunch, then we got ready for a nap run. I ran 3 miles while they napped.

When we got back I set them in front of the TV with some ice cream so I could take a quick shower. Daddy came out and sat with them for a couple minutes.

After I showered we did our tea time where I read to them and we have snacks. We read a few passages from what your preschooler needs to know and the book ‘H is for honey’. Then we completed all about reading pre-reading for the letter f. Then Robert did some practice with scissors while cutting papers and then they both did some dexterity work by threading animals.

After we finished our school work, my husband told us Starbucks having a deal on their foul drinks. So I loaded the kids in the car and we drove through Starbucks and then since we were out and it was close to dinner we drove through Taco Bell haha.

We ate dinner as a family. Then the kids took a bath then played with their daddy while we watched sea shanties and other songs on YouTube. My son is currently obsessed with the shanties.

My daughter was asleep by 7:25pm, and my son was asleep by 9. We have been having some big bedtime battles with our toddler. But I think it’s slowly going back to normal knock on wood.

Then my daughter was up from 10:30pm- 12am. I couldn’t get her back to sleep in her crib so she came into our room and took another 2+ hours to fall asleep…..it was horrible.

And that was our day.

August 2023 homeschooling reflective

I put on some Nat Geo in the morning while we all relaxed and woke up

I read them a book from the construction unit we are doing from playing preschool

We talked about the date, weather, season, the months of the year and the days of the week

We did some stickers in our math sticker book

And of course we couldn’t leave my 15 month old out of it lol.
They played a little in the sink
Daddy came out for lunch to play
Then he had a meltdown and rage colored lol
I actually did my hair (don’t look at the post partum flyaways lol) and put some mascara on
We hit the library and I got way too many books for me hahaha
Nap walk. This is how I get them both to take a nap currently
Did some worksheet pages
Attempted our first teatime……..ummmmm id call it a half success. He had a huge tantrum (he had a hard toddler day) but we did get 3 short sections and 1 longer section read in the preschooler book
Got a Good and the Beautiful lesson done.

Then we played outside until daddy got off work

Overall I’d call it a pretty good day.

A day in the life 2.5 yr old and 1 yr old

This is actually a few days worth of photos and happenings because my husband was gone for a week and my mom was here for a week and it was baby girls birthday party.

My baby slept through the night which was amazing. Toddler woke up at 545am looking for his moose. Got that for him and he dozed again for about an hour.

Baby got up at 615am. Fed her and she played a bit.

Coffee time

Toddler up just after 7am.

Nana is here visiting and he is soaking it up
We try to do a school activity each morning
Get in a workout of some kind.
After we finish either a walk or my run then we do some outside chores and unstructured play. This can last anywhere from 20min to almost an hour depending on how quickly we got out of the house and how long we were walking/running.

1130-1145am ish we sit down for lunch

We ate out a lot this week while my mom was in town

After lunch is nap time. This goes from 1230ish until 230-330 depending on when the kids wake up.

After nap time we try for a little more school

We got a butterfly grow kit and are enjoying watching them grow.
We made rain clouds

After school we play outside more until dinner

Family dinner around 530pm then bath time!

The kids get to run around a bit then Ella goes to bed around 7pm, Robert runs around a bit longer than my husband puts him to bed around 8pm.

I clean up the kitchen then read until I go to bed around 10pm……. Though I should go to sleep around 9-930pm.

That is the basic layout of our day.

A day in the life on an 8 month old

My baby boy turned 8 months yesterday!!! So crazy!

This is how are days generally go currently.

Woke up at 6am, diaper change.

Today is…. we do the month, date, year, day of the week, season and weather…I made this so it is not perfect ahahahah but it gets the job done.

Bottle time!!!!

Play time with some reading basics….and coffee for me

Breakfast!!! Or if you are a hobbit, 2nd breakfast……did i get that reference right? Hahaha

Eggs, avocado and peanut butter toast

Little man hangs out on a blanket while I water the backyard and take care of the chicken coop. During this time he loves watching the dog and the chickens as they waddle all over the yard. It usually takes about 20-25 min to get it all done and he usually lasts that long just watching the dog and chickens but not always.

She is getting more and more used to him

After yard work he runs around in his walker while I try and clean as much as possible. Sometimes he chases the dog, sometimes he chases the robot vacuum hahahahaah how long he lasts varies some days its 15 min and some days its 30+ min.

Once he gets sick of his walker we head into his room to play before his first nap.

Last 30 min before nap is a struggle to keep him happy and entertained hahahah
if he isnt too grumpy we will read a few pages from the chapter book we are reading. currently it is The Hobbit.
I am slowly introducing him to trying to hold writing intraments

Nap time is about 3 hours after he wakes up. We do a diaper change, put him in his sleep sack, drink a bottle and into the crib he goes. Today he was asleep by 8:55ish

During this time I clean or food prep or workout or shower or anything on my list that I need to do that day.

today it was all cleaning and laundry

When he wakes up its another diaper change. Activity for a few minutes then lunch.

It was nice and cool out today so we went for a walk
Lunch was chicken nuggets, broccoli, tomato, pesto pasta and some cheese
Daddy got to say hi during lunch!
Bottle time!
A little independent play time while I hung some pictures
Then more walker time to tire him out before his nap. this kid just wants to be moving around all the time
Afternoon nap on mama.
Another walk because it was sooo nice out
Quesadilla and avocado for dinner
Bath time!

Then daddy does bedtime. He was asleep by 7pm. I relaxed for about 20 min then I head back outside to check the chickens food and water before bed. Currently i do a little bit of homeschool research at night as well and I prep his bottles for the next day before i head to bed. My goal is to be in bed before 10.

To show you the full 24 hours I woke up today at 610 to him chatting to himself. he was content so i got up, warmed his bottle and started my coffee. he was still content so i sat down to enjoy my coffee for a few minutes and he fell back asleep! i will let him sleep until about 730 if he doesn’t wake up on his own. Any later than that and we would have to move his bedtime later.
