A good haul.

Hi friends!!!!

Wow have the last 2 weeks been really good for us with gathering supplies!!

So i have that pair of shoes that i used to hike the Andes in and several hiking ventures since then, but they say you can go through anywhere from 3-5 pairs of shoes on the trail and that as you hike your feet swell to sometimes 2 times their normal size. I was nervous about this because hiking shoes are expensive!!! Especially the brand that i have and love which is Keen. The pair i bought about 5 years ago was over $100. Now that pair is still good and i am going to still use it but i knew i was going to need new shoes as some point if i didn’t want to pull a Cheryl Strayed and hike in some duck tape flip flops. So mom and i went to Scheels (an outdoor store) and i took a look at some shoes and saw a pair that looked very breathable for the dessert, not a color i loved but low and behold they were on clearance for $70!!!! Totally new shoes for a steal, i got them a size bigger for foot health! Then the same day we hit the REI garage sale and i got a pair of slightly used shoes (also keen), two sizes bigger for $30!!!!! 2 pairs of shoes for the price of 1! Love it!!!

Mom and i got our pack covers for when we run into rain 🙂

yep mine is super bright orange hahaha!

got two of my favorite brand of sports bra, between the two new ones and two that i already have, i am set for the trail. i will have two will me at all times, when one goes ill have another shipped to me.

i got my thermals for pretty cheap at Scheels (sometimes they are like the Walmart of sporting goods and other times they are severely overpriced). i wasn’t worried about style or anything with this since they will be under my clothes and no one will see them.

the last steal we got at the REI garage sale are a pair of zip-off pants for me! these normally go for around $80+ i found these lightly worn, they were returned because the drawstring on the bottom of one leg broke (which is fine by me, i have a pair of pants like that already so i am used to it lol) they were being resold for $30!!! These are my shorts and pants all in one.

unlike my shoes i bought these pants a size smaller than i am currently. i have the pants i used to use for hiking that are a smidgen big that i can use for the first few weeks as i lose weight until the smaller size pants fit.

and last but not least, today i got my bear canister. This is required for parts of the trail like Yosemite and the Sierras.

Thats all for now, but i am so excited for these great deals!!!!!

Talk to you soon!

Shopping Day

Hi everyone!!!!

Can you feel fall in the air?! I Can!!! The mornings are getting very chilly and crisp here and i LOVE it!

So unfortunately i do not have an unlimited budget, actually after my shopping day my accounts are pretty much empty lol, but i will hopefully have some income coming in soon. I am not going to lie, i needed new jeans (that don’t have holes in them) and then i saw a cute shirt and jacket to go with it, that helped break the bank not just my trail stuff. But anyways, on to the good stuff……what i got for the trail:

Our sleeping pads! Mom and I got the same pads, most people on the trail that i have been reading about have used these sleep pads. I took the pad out in REI and laid down on it, it is suprisingly comfy for something so thin, i am happy with it.

Merino Wool socks! I got them on clearance at REI 🙂 Mom and i are heading to REI every week or two to shop the clearance racks, don’t judge, i told you i am broke, so clearance and sales are my best friend.

A great sleeping bag liner. it will add 20 degrees to my sleeping bag which means i am good to go even if i get stuck in a snow storm in the Sierras or Washington mountains. It feels all furry and warm inside it, i like it and am excited for it.

I found my desert pajama top!!! It was on clearance at REI and it is bug repellent!!!! I love the idea of my shirt repelling bugs while i sleep, hopefully i will sleep a little sounder know this. The sleeves are mesh-like so they are nice and breathable and it is a very thin lightweight shirt. Ill let you know how it holds up.

T-shirt for the desert! It is sweat wicking which is a vital compenant for the hot California desert. Got it on clearance at Sierra Trading post, it is very silky and comfy. You will notice i am not posting pictures of me in these clothes yet…..this is because i am nursing a most unfortunate muffin top and i am buying my shirts to be tight so that they will still fit as i loose weight. They are not so tight as to be uncomfortable but they are not the most flattering at the moment. I do plan on losing 10-15lbs before i leave on the trail and i know i will probably lose another 10-15 minimum on the trail.

Last but not least we have the meager beginnings of a first aid kit, very meager:

Mostly it is blister care, there is still so much more to acquire but slowly but surely i am getting there.

I have got about 7.5 months to get everything else. I can do it!!!

Talk to you soon….
